What dental sealants are
A sealant is a thin, protective coating painted into the deep grooves of the back teeth (molars), where toothbrush bristles can’t reach and cavities most often start. It seals out food and bacteria, adding a real layer of cavity protection.

Why they’re great for kids
- Protect the cavity-prone grooves of new molars
- Quick and completely painless — no drilling
- An affordable way to prevent fillings later
- A smart complement to fluoride and good brushing
Quick, painless, preventive
Applying sealants takes just minutes per tooth and involves no drilling or numbing — your child is in and out comfortably. They’re a key part of our children’s dentistry, and because we’re a family practice, the whole family can be seen in one trip.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Are dental sealants only for children?
Sealants are most common for kids and teens as their molars come in, but adults without decay or fillings in their molars can benefit too. We’ll let you know if they’re a good fit.
Does applying a sealant hurt?
Not at all — there’s no drilling or numbing. We clean the tooth, paint on the sealant, and harden it with a light. It’s quick and completely painless.
How long do sealants last?
Sealants can protect teeth for several years. We check them at routine visits and simply reapply if one wears down.
Are sealants covered by insurance?
Many plans cover sealants for children, and we accept most PPO and HMO plans plus Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal. Our team will confirm your benefits.
