FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How often should I actually see a dentist?

For most people, twice a year. If you have gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, diabetes, or you smoke, we may recommend every three or four months — that is not upselling, it is because those conditions progress faster between visits.

What if I have not been to a dentist in years?

You will not be lectured. We start with an honest picture of where things stand, prioritise comfort and health first, and phase the rest at a pace that works for you. A large share of our new patients are in exactly this position.

Do you accept Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal?

Yes, and we genuinely welcome those patients. Adult Denti-Cal covers more than most people realise — exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions, many root canals, and dentures. Bring your card and we will confirm your exact eligibility.

What if I do not have any insurance?

You have three options: our in-house membership plan (a flat annual fee covering preventive care), financing through CareCredit, Cherry or Sunbit, and our current new-patient specials. Many uninsured patients pay less than they expect.

Will I know what treatment costs before you start?

Always. You get a written, itemised estimate with your expected insurance portion separated out before anything begins. If something changes mid-treatment, we stop and talk to you rather than adding it to the bill.

I am terrified of the dentist. What are my options?

Tell us at the start and we will go slower, explain before we act, and stop whenever you raise a hand. For deeper anxiety we offer sedation options, and many anxious patients do very well with nitrous oxide.

Can I be seen the same day for a toothache?

Usually. We hold time each day for emergencies. Call (562) 928-5559 early in the morning and describe the symptoms — pain, swelling and trauma get priority, and you do not need to be an existing patient.

My tooth stopped hurting on its own. Am I fine now?

Not necessarily, and this is the single most dangerous assumption in dentistry. Pain that disappears often means the nerve has died, not that the infection has cleared. The infection usually keeps spreading silently. Please still get it looked at.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Yes. Modern digital X-rays use a very small fraction of the radiation of older film, and we only take what is clinically necessary. Tell us if you are or might be pregnant and we will adjust accordingly.

How long do implants, crowns and fillings last?

With good care, implants often last decades, crowns commonly ten to fifteen years or more, and tooth-coloured fillings roughly seven to ten. The biggest variables are your home care, grinding, and keeping regular checkups.

Is professional whitening better than strips from the store?

Yes — stronger, faster and more even, with custom trays that keep the gel off your gums. Store strips can work for mild staining, but they do not touch deeper discolouration and often cause more sensitivity from poor fit.

Do you treat children? From what age?

Yes. We recommend the first visit by around age one or when the first tooth appears — mostly to get children comfortable and catch issues early. Seeing the whole family means one trip instead of several.

Do you speak Spanish?

Sí, se habla español. Our team is bilingual and you can ask for anything — including your treatment plan and cost estimate — to be explained in Spanish.

Where are you located and is parking easy?

We are at 8514 Paramount Blvd., Downey, CA 90240, with convenient parking right outside. We regularly see patients from Pico Rivera, Bellflower, Norwalk, South Gate and Montebello.

What should I do if a tooth gets knocked out?

Handle it by the crown, never the root. Rinse gently with water without scrubbing, and if you can, place it back in the socket. If not, keep it in milk and call us immediately — the first hour matters enormously.
